The Lancaster Bible College men's tennis team returned to the court for the first time in nearly three weeks on Monday, but lost to Penn St. Brandywine, 7-2 in Media, Pa. The loss drops the Chargers to 0-2 this season, while the Nittany Lions improved to 1-1.
The Chargers got off to a rough start, dropping all three doubles matches, as the number one team of Luke Newberry and Ming Bowser lost, 8-4. The number two team of Keven Vallette and Darice Butler fell, 8-2, while the third flight team of Evan Holbrook and James Hutchinson lost, 8-3.Â
Newberry rebounded in singles play, and won his second straight match in flight one singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Matt Canavati. Holbrook earned the other point for Lancaster Bible, winning his flight four singles match, 6-2, 6-4, over Victor Ficarra.Â
Butler lost a tight match at number five singles, falling 6-3, 7-6, while Bowser dropped his number two singles match, 6-2, 6-0. Vallette lost, 6-0, 6-2 in his flight three match, and Hutchinson fell, 6-2, 6-3, in his flight six match.
Lancaster Bible is scheduled to host Penn St. Harrisburg on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Hempfield Rec Center, though the weather may have other plans.
