The Lancaster Bible College men's tennis team lost its third straight game to begin the 2018 season on Monday, falling to Penn St. Harrisburg, 8-1 in Middletown, Pa. The Chargers are now 0-3, while they Nittany Lions improved to -39.
Lancaster Bible trailed 3-0 after doubles action, as the top flight team of Luke Newberry and Derice Butler lost 8-3. Ming Bowser and Evan Holbrook lost at number two doubles, 8-1, while Keven Vallette and James Hutchinson dropped an 8-2 flight three doubles match.
Newberry improved to 3-0 this season in singles action, as the Lititz, Pa. native defeated Eric Bellers, 6-3, 6-1 at flight one. Newberry is the first Lancaster Bible men's tennis player to open a season 3-0 at flight one. Bowser lost his flight two match, 6-2, 6-4, while Holbrook dropped his number three singles match, 6-3, 7-5.
Butler lost, 6-0, 6-1 at fight four, while Vallette dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision at flight five singles. Hutchinson battled, but ultimately lost at number six singles, 6-3, 6-3.
The Chargers return to action on Tuesday, when Lancaster Bible heads to Doylestown, Pa. to take on Delaware Valley at 4 p.m.
