The Lancaster Bible College men's tennis team dropped its first North Eastern Athletic Conference match of the season on Wednesday, falling to Penn St. Berks, 9-0 at Hempfield Rec Center in Landisville, Pa. The Chargers are now 1-5 overall and 1-1 in conference action, while the Nittany Lions improved to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in NEAC play.
Penn St. Berks won all three doubles matches will relative ease, as the Chargers' flight one team of Luke Newberry and Derice Butler lost, 8-1, as did the number two team of Evan Holbrook and Ming Bower. Keven Vallette and Kyle Heck dropped their match, 8-0 at flight three doubles.
Newberry played well in his flight one singles match, but eventually lost, 6-4, 7-5 to Will Byler. The singles loss was Newberry's first of the season, and he is now 5-1 at the top spot in 2018. Bowser lost his number two singles match, while Holbrook dropped his flight three singles match, 6-0, 6-3 to Mostafa Rahmy. Butler, Vallette and James Hutchinson also lost their singles matches.
The Chargers return to the court on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host St. Elizabeth at 1 p.m. The match will again take place at Hempfield Rec Center.
