The Lancaster Bible College men's tennis team celebrated Evan Holbrook's Senior Day by defeating Eastern for the first time in program history, as the Chargers downed the Eagles, 5-4 at Hempfield Rec Center in Landisville, Pa. The Chargers are now 4-7 overall, while Eastern dropped to 4-8.
Lancaster Bible won two of the three doubles matches on Tuesday, as the flight two team of Ming Bowser and Evan Holbrook were victorious, 8-5, and the flight three team of Keven Vallette and James Hutchinson won, 8-1. The number one doubles team of Luke Newberry and Kyle Heck dropped their match, 8-2.Â
Newberry rebounded with a 7-5, 6-0 victory at number one singles, as he defeated Ryan Hamilton. Bowser battled, but fell 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 at number two singles to Karl Finkbeiner, while Holbrook also lost in three sets at number three singles, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.Â
Derice Butler lost his flight four match, 6-3, 7-5, but Vallette and Hutchinson each won their matches to help the Chargers get the win. Vallette won, 6-3, 6-1 at flight five singles, and Hutchinson earned a 6-0, 6-3 victory at flight six singles.
The Chargers are now 1-7 all-time against Eastern and will enter the North Eastern Athletic Conference playoffs on a high note. The Chargers will face top-seeded Penn St. Berks on Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Birchwood Tennis & Fitness Club in Clarks Summit, Pa. The winner will advance to the NEAC Final which will be held on Saturday morning.
