Collegeville, Pa. – The Lancaster Bible College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams competed in the Bow Tie Invite hosted by Ursinus College on Friday, December 10, 2021. The meet was made up of 11 schools from across NCAA Division II & Division III. LBC had another successful outing, setting 11 school records, earning two more NCCAA Indoor Championship Berths, and 18 top ten finishes including first place finishes from Zimmerman and Baughman.
Out of the Blocks
In the men's 200 meters,
Eric Zimmerman laid down a blazing fast time of 22.96 taking the top spot in the event. Zimmerman's time qualified him for the NCCAA Indoor Championship later this winter. Zimmerman also earned a berth in the 60-meter dash at the NCCAA Championships as he finished 4
th in the finals with a time of 7.18.
Elijah Herb had a solid performance in the 60-meter hurdles, setting the school record in his preliminary heat with a time 8.81. Herb earned a spot in the finals where he would take third place with a time of 8.94.
Adam Horning cracked the top 10 in the mile, completing his eight laps around the track in a time of 4:53.75, which was good enough for 8
th place.
The Chargers reset the record books in both the men's and women's 4X400 meter relays. The women ran first with
Erin Wilsey running the opening leg in a time of 1:12.41.
Jurnee Acosta was passed the baton, laying down a 400-meter time of 1:14.67.
Kara Huber was up next for the Chargers and she posted the top individual performance, sprinting the third leg in a time of 1:08.30.
Phoebe Clemens anchored the team, pushing herself to cross the line in a time of 1:10.43. The team combined to record a time of 4:45.82. In the men's 4X400,
Logan Burkholder opened the race by finishing the first leg in a time of 56.56. Jon Collins was up next, keeping a steady pace to record a time of 56.92.
Adam Horning served as the team's third leg, running the best individual 400-meter time, passing the baton after a two-lap time of 54.91.
Nick Songster closed out the race with a time of 55.87. The Chargers combined to post a time of 3:43.97.
At the Pits
LBC filled the field for the men's high jump, with
Trey Baughman leading the charge in the event. Baughman cleared a height of 1.93 meters, setting a new school record in the process.
Logan Burkholder placed fifth in the event, clearing the bar at a height of 1.63 meters.
Kyle Gregory took sixth place in the high jump, leaping 1.58 meters. On the women's side,
Leah Bergey continued her excellent start to the season, bettering her school record by clearing 1.55 meters. Bergey finished second in the event.
Over at the long jump, Gregory once again placed in the top 10, finishing fourth with a distance of 5.79 meters.
Elijah Herb launched himself 5.67 meters, which was good enough for seventh place.
Andrew Kidder also cracked the top 10 with a leap of 5.58 meters. On the women's side,
Phoebe Clemens finished 10
th with a jump of 4.07 meters. In the men's triple jump, Herb again had a strong showing, traveling 11.27 meters which was good enough for fifth place.
Finally, over in the men's pole vault Nate Vigil broke a school record with a vault of 3.65 meters. Vigil took third overall in the event.
Logan Burkholder took sixth in the event with one of his best career jumps of 3.20 meters. In the women's pole vault,
Kara Huber made history, setting the school record with a vault of 2.45 meters, finishing third overall in the event.
Coaching Points
"I thought as a team we had a really solid meet today," said head coach
Melissa Baughman. "Many of our student-athletes had huge PRs. It was neat to see so much improvement already. I look forward to getting back into competition after the break." When asked about seniors
Zach Clemens and
Chantal Peterson who were each competing in their final meet Baughman said, "They both finished strong with PRs today, we will certainly miss their leadership and Godly example."

Who's Next
The Men's & Women's Track & Field teams will pause until after winter break. They will return to action on Friday, January 14 when they participate in the LVC Invite hosted by Lebanon Valley College.
