The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team earned its first-ever NCCAA Division I Top Ten Ranking on Tuesday, as the Chargers were ranked ninth in the final poll of the season. Lancaster Bible finished the year with a 13-4 overall record, and earned a fifth place finish at the NCCAA Division I National Tournament last week in Winona Lake, Ind.
After playing a non-conference season comprised of NCAA Division III opponents, along with two NCAA Division I exhibition contests, Lancaster Bible entered the NCCAA Div. I Midwest Regional Tournament and defeated NAIA Concordia, 84-61 in the region semifinals before falling to NAIA Grace (Ind.), 89-85 in the region final.Â
The Chargers earned an at-large bid to the NCCAA Div. I National Tournament thanks to their record during the regular season, and narrowly overcame a late 11-point deficit in their opening round game of the national tournament, but lost to eventual champion Northwestern (Minn.), 67-65. Rather than fold, the Chargers played tremendous basketball in their final two games, an defeated SAGU American Indian (Ariz.), 107-51, and Columbia International, 87-68, to earn a fifth place finish.
The last time Lancaster Bible finished ranked in a national poll was the 2015-16 season when the Chargers finished 23rd in the final D3hoops.com Top 25.
