Chargers Continue Growth at Alvernia Winter Invite

Reading, Pa. - The Lancaster Bible College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams competed in the Winter Invite hosted by Alvernia University on Saturday, January 22. More than 20 schools competed at the meet, with hundreds of student athletes participating. LBC had a solid outing, setting six new school records and earning another NCCAA Indoor Championship Birth.

Out of the Blocks
Nick Songster ran a strong race in the 400 meters, setting a school record with a time of 55.98. Erin Wilsey also set a program record in the women's 400 meters, crossing the line with a time of 1:11.39. In the shorter distance races, both Hannah Lieb and Leah Bergey took ownership of two LBC records in the women's 60 meters and 60M hurdles. Lieb raced across the finish line in 8.90 seconds, while Bergey finished eighth in her event with a time of 9.69. With her time, Bergey punched her ticket to the NCCAA Indoor Championships in 60 meter hurdles.

Adam Horning set a school record in the men's 800 meters, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:08.61.Both the men and women competed in the 4X200 meter relays. The men's team, comprised of Kyle Gregory, Trey Baughman, Josh Noll and Eric Zimmerman, placed seventh in the race with a time of 1:41.18. Meanwhile, the women's team, including Lieb, Kara Huber, Elizabeth Lieb and Bergey, finished eighth and set a new school record with a time of 2:01.61.

At the Pits
Trey Baughman placed third in the men's high jump, recording a height of 1.94 meters. On the women's side, Bergey finished sixth in the event, jumping a height of 1.50 meters. In the pole vault, Nathan Vigil tied his own school record, clearing a height of 3.65 meters and finishing eighth in the event.

Coaching Points
"It was the most competitive meet we've been to this season." said head coach Melissa Baughman. "Today we faced some challenges. I was proud of how our athletes battled through adversity. 15 Personal Records, but we definitely need to step up our consistency in training."

The Men's & Women's Track & Field teams will take part in the Little Dip Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall College on Friday, January 28 at 2:00 p.m.
