Cedarville, Ohio- The Lancaster Bible College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams got off to an outstanding start at the NCCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship with
Trey Baughman and
Leah Bergey earning the program's first ever NCCAA Indoor All-American Honors for their efforts in the high jump and the pentathlon. After day 1 of action, the Chargers are 7
th in both the men's and women's team standings.
Out of the Blocks
Eric Zimmerman took part in the prelim race for the 60 meters, where he finished 15
th overall with a time of 7.24. Zimmerman did not qualify for the finals, but he will get another chance to compete when he takes part in the 200 meters tomorrow.
The women's 4x200 team of
Erin Wilsey,
Hannah Lieb,
Elizabeth Lieb and
Kara Huber took eighth, finishing the race in a school-record time of 1:58.98. The team picked up a team point for their effort. In the men's 4x200, the team of
Nick Songster,
Trey Baughman,
Kyle Gregory and
Eric Zimmerman also set a school record, posting a time of 1:36.60 and finishing seventh in the event. The team picked up two team points.
At The Pits
Trey Baughman earned All-American status in the men's high jump, taking second overall in the event by clearing the bar at 2.00 meters. Baughman and event-winner Isaac Brown from Grace College both broke the meet record in the high jump. Baughman earned All-American Honors last spring in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing third in the event.
All-Around
The Chargers had two athletes take part in the women's pentathlon, with
Leah Bergey earning NCCAA All-American Status in the event with a total score of 2786. Bergey started strong in the event by setting a school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.32 which earned her 844 points. Bergey then cleared 1.50 meters in the high jump, picking up 621 points. Bergey added 392 points with a toss of 7.89 meters in the shot put and 441 points in the long jump by traveling 4.55 meters. Bergey then closed the event with a time of 2:47.65 in the 800 meters, securing the second-place finish. She also set a new school record in the event, bettering her score by 200 points from earlier this season. Bergey earned All-American status in the 400-meter hurdles last spring in the outdoor championships.Â
Emma Rohn finished the event with 1805 points, taking eighth and earning a team point. Rohn's best event was the 800 meters where she finished in a time of 2:50.04 earning 463 points. Â
