How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible baseball team picked up their first win of the season, defeating Clarks Summit University by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday, March 2.
Neither team could get on the board early in the game, with starting pitcher
Jackson York holding the Defenders (0-1 Overall, 0-0 CSAC) scoreless in the first three innings. Clarks Summit broke through grabbing a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. The Chargers (1-1 Overall, 0-0 United East) answered back in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Kaden Hunt started the inning by working a walk and stealing second base.
James Toney then reached on an error, allowing Hunt to advance to third. Later in the inning,
Harrison Madagan then hit a pop up into shallow left field and on a throwing error after the catch Hunt scored.
Brian Coburn then smashed a triple off the right field fence scoring Toney.
Jaden Pinkney reached on an error, scoring Coburn to put the Chargers ahead 3-1.
Clarks Summit kept fighting back, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning, retaking a 4-3 lead. LBC had an immediate answer in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Mark Cullins reached on an error and advanced to second.
Jaden Pinkney then smashed a 2-run homerun over the center field fence, giving the Chargers a 5-4 lead.
The Defenders tied the game in the top of the seventh inning, but relief pitcher
Harrison Hobdy shut down Clarks Summit in the eighth and ninth innings. Coburn started LBC's rally in the eighth inning smashing a single into left field with two outs. After Coburn stole second base, Pinkney crushed a single up the middle, scoring Coburn to put the Chargers ahead 6-5. The Chargers held on for the 6-5 victory.

Coaching Points
"Today was not our best effort. It's always nice to win, but we have some work to do," said head coach
Caleb Abney. "I'm proud of these guys for finding a way to grind out a win against a gritty team when we didn't have our best day today. We will definitely learn from this one, while also being thankful for the win."
