How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College baseball team tried to pull off a late rally but came up just short, falling to Gettysburg College by a score of 11-8 on Tuesday, March 22.
The Chargers (7-9 Overall, 2-1 United East) struggled to get the bats going early being held scoreless through the first six innings of action. Gettysburg (6-8 Overall, 0-0 Centennial) grabbed the early momentum, plating five runs in the first inning and adding another run in the second to take a 6-0 lead. The Bullets continued to pull away, taking a commanding 11-0 lead after scoring three more runs in the sixth inning.
LBC began their climb back into the game in the seventh inning.
Mark Cullins led off the inning by drawing a walk and
Kaden Hunt hit single to put runners on first and second.
Jaden Pinkney worked a walk to load the bases.
Brian Coburn hit a hard ground ball, forcing an error and allowing LBC to score their first run of the game.
Ethan Varricchione kept the rally going, smashing a single into left field that scored Hunt.
Tyler Cunningham drew a walk with the bases loaded, scoring another run. After a pitching change,
Harrison Hobdy drew another walk, plating a run to cut the deficit down to seven.
James Toney then roped a double into left field, bringing in a pair of runs.
The Chargers continued their rally in the eighth inning.
Blake Greenly led off by hitting a single into left field.
Jaden Pinkney followed with a single to put a pair of runners on base. After Greenly advanced to third on a flyout by Coburn, Pinkney stole second base and on a throwing error, Greenly scored.
Adam Naylor then drove a single up the middle, allowing Pinkney to score. The Chargers could get no closer, eventually falling 11-8. Â
