Baseball Drops Two Games To Penn St. Abington

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College baseball team fell in game two of their three game series with Penn St. Abington, falling by a score of 12-2 on Saturday April 9.

Trailing 1-0, the Chargers (13-13 Overall, 8-3 United East) started to find their groove in the second inning. Ethan Varricchione led off the inning by working a walk and then stealing second base. Adam Naylor reached base via a walk and then he and Varricchione pulled off a double steal to put runners on second and third. Kaden Hunt smashed a single into left field, bringing in both runners to give LBC a 2-1 lead.

Penn St. Abington (17-8 Overall, 8-4 United East) retook the lead, scoring two runs in the bottom for the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. After the Lions tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning, LBC looked to try to rally back in the top of the sixth inning. Varricchione singled and stole second to put himself in scoring position, but LBC was unable to bring him home. The Lions tacked on seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, to put the game out of reach, securing a 12-2 victory

Inside the Numbers
- Kaden Hunt went 2-3 driving in both RBIs for the Chargers on a single in the second inning
- Jaden Pinkney blasted a pair of doubles, going 2-4 on the game
- Adam Naylor hit a double, going 1-2 on the game
- Ethan Varricchione went 1-3 with three stolen bases

On the Mound
- Jackson York pitched 5.0 innings, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out three
- Matthew Shaeffer came on in relief, pitching 1.0 innings, allowing seven runs on five hits

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College baseball team could not bounce back, falling to Penn St. Abington in game three of their series by a score of 12-6.

Penn St. Abington (18-8 Overall, 8-4 United East) scored six runs in the first two innings, racing out to an early lead. LBC (13-14 Overall, 8-4 United East) cut into the deficit in the third inning. Adam Naylor reached base on an error and eventually scored on a single to center by Blake Greenly.

The Lions continued to grow their advantage, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning. LBC responded, scoring in the top of the fifth inning. Harrison Hobdy worked a walk and eventually worked his way over to third base. Kaden Hunt smashed a single into left center, allowing Hobdy to score. Penn St. Abington stretched their lead to 10, holding a 12-2 advantage entering the ninth inning.

The Chargers tried to rally in top of the ninth inning. Naylor and Hunt worked walks and Mark Cullins singled to left field to load the bases. Greenly drove a single through the right side, scoring Naylor. Jaden Pinkney then ground out to third, allowing Cullins to score. Brian Coburn reached base on an error that allowed two more runs to score. The Lions halted LBC's rally, holding on for the 12-6 victory.  

Inside the Numbers
- Blake Greenly went 2-5, driving in two RBIs
- Mark Cullins went 2-2 with a pair of singles
- Kaden Hunt finished the game 1-3 with an RBI
- Jaden Pinkney drove in a run in the ninth inning

On the Mound
- Owen Shimmel got the start, pitching 2.0 innings allowing six runs on seven hits
- Colin Brubaker came on in relief, pitching 2.0 innings allowing four runs on six hits
- James Toney and Blake Greenly each pitched an inning in relief, holding the Lions scoreless during their time on the mound
- Brian Coburn pitched 2.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits

Who's Next
The Chargers will look to rebound when they travel to face Juniata College on Wednesday, April 13 at 3:30 p.m.
