Women’s Volleyball Grabs Pair of Wins

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team added two more tallies to the win column on Saturday with a 3-0 win over New Jersey City and a 3-2 win against Bard. The Chargers are now 16-10 overall with just one more non-conference game to go before the 2023 United East Conference Championship Tournament.

vs. New Jersey City, 3-0 Win (25-15, 25-16, 25-22)

How It Happened: The Chargers started the first set with a 15-6 lead and didn't look back from there, leading to two consecutive 25-15 and 25-16 set wins. It was the third set that kept the Chargers on their toes as the Knights began with a 4-1 lead. The Chargers quickly tied the game at 4-4 thanks to back-to-back kills from Eden Belford, but the Knights didn't back down, keeping the lead through most of the set. It wasn't until the 21st point that the Chargers evened the score. Again, tied at 22-22, the freshman Lea Sareyka stepped up big, posting three kills in a row to end the match and give the Chargers their ninth home win of the season.

By the Numbers: The Chargers were led by Jessica Fletcher with a game-high seven kills… Faith Hammond and Lea Sareyka both had six kills… Leah Helman tallied 11 digs and three aces… the Chargers had 34 kills in total to the Knights' 20… Kiki Lugo and Marina Millett led the Knights with six total kills.
 vs. Bard, 3-2 Win (22-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-13, 15-11)

How It Happened: The Raptors started the first set on a 4-0 run and carried the momentum through the first two sets, giving up the lead only twice to the Chargers. Facing a 2-0 deficit with the match on the line, the Chargers started down 7-1 in the third set. Seniors Chloe King and Morgan Fenstermacher and freshman Jessica Fletcher wouldn't let the deficit grow anymore as they traded kill after kill to take the lead 12-11, and eventually the third set 25-20 to stay alive.

In the middle of the fourth set the Chargers put together a solid 14-3 run to make it a 21-11 ballgame and a 25-13 set win. With just one final set on Saturday afternoon, the Chargers came out firing thanks to help from Fenstermacher, Madeline Reed, Fletcher, and Sheyenne King, who gave the Chargers a 6-0 lead. The Raptors didn't settle though as they fought back to bring the game within just two points, 12-10. Despite the back and forth play, the Chargers finished the match rallying on a Fenstermacher kill to give them their second win of the day.

By the Numbers: The Chargers tallied 57 kills to the Raptors' 30 kills… the Chargers had 14 service aces while the Raptors had eight… the Chargers finished with 53 total assists and 80 total digs… Chloe King, Morgan Fenstermacher, and Jessica Fletcher had 16, 15, and 14 kills respectively… Sheyenne King finished with four aces and one block… Madeline Reed dished out 32 assists and three aces… Ryan Lum had 12 kills for the Raptors.
