Chargers Sweep Saturday, Helman Surpasses 1K Digs

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team hosted both Penn College and Arcadia on Saturday afternoon, winning both 3-0. Highlighting the day was junior Leah Helman reaching 1,000 career digs in the first set of the day. The Chargers improve to 11-6 overall and 2-0 in the United East Conference.

How It Happened: The Wildcats started out taking a 3-1 lead, however the Chargers responded, retaking the lead 6-3, not to mention junior libero Leah Helman securing her much anticipated 1000th career dig. Helman currently sits in 7th all-time and will look to eclipse the all-time leader Myranda Kemrer (1,783 digs) in her final season with the Chargers next year. As the match continued to go on, the Chargers traded three points for every Wildcat point scored, helping them to secure a 25-14 first set win to open up Saturday afternoon.
 
The following two sets featured some of the Chargers' best offensive attacks as Chloe King, Jessica Fletcher, Lea Sareyka, Faith Hammond, Morgan Fenstermacher, Eden Belford, Riley Dodrer, and several others registered kills. The Chargers managed to have ten total players with at least one kill in the match; senior Faith Hammond was the only one to register double-digit kills.
 
By the Numbers: The Chargers had 50 kills to the Wildcats' 12… the Chargers also tallied eight aces, three blocks, and 47 total assists… Hammond had 10 kills, Fenstermacher had nine kills, and Fletcher had eight kills… freshman Tessa Kwiatkowski had three aces and 15 assists… Fenstermacher notched two blocks… Madeline Reed dished out 30 assists… Helman finished with 25 digs… Hailey Debrody had a team-high five kills for the Wildcats.

How It Happened: The Chargers and Knights opened their last competition of the day trading points until the Knights took a demanding 14-7 lead on an 8-2 run. The Chargers looked to battle back, but the Knights stayed hot, handing the Chargers a 25-16 first set loss.
 
Heading into the second set, the Chargers looked to turn things around, but the Knights stayed hot beginning on a 5-0 run. The Chargers stayed resilient though, taking the lead 10-9 on a block from Riley Dodrer and Chloe King. The Chargers proceeded to go on a 7-2 run, using the momentum to take the second set 25-19 and tie the game 1-1.
 
The Chargers and Knights continued to trade points for the next two sets as the Knights won the third set 25-22 and the Chargers won the fourth set by the same score, 25-22. Down to the last set, the fifth set proved to be the most entertaining as the lead changed twice early. The Chargers managed to get three points ahead, 8-5, off a Chloe King kill, but the Knights didn't back down, tying the game at 8-8. The Chargers accepted the challenge though, rattling off a 7-2 run to win the set 15-10 and win their second game of the day.

By the Numbers: The Chargers had 53 kills to the Knights' 51… the Knights won the aces battle 12-9… the Chargers had eight blocks to the Knights' four… there were 170 total digs in the game… Chloe King had a game- and season-high 18 kills… Lea Sareyka had 12 kills and five blocks… Hammond had 10 kills… Madeline Reed dished out 37 assists while Leah Helman had a game- and season-high 31 digs… Alyssa Dennison had 13 kills for the Knights.
 
Information to Know: This is now the longest home game winning streak in program history at nine straight wins in the Horst Athletic Center dating back to 2022… the Chargers have now reached 10+ wins for the 17th consecutive season, with their last <10 win="" season="" coming="" in="" 2005="" before="" they="" joined="" ncaa="" division="" iii="" play.="" helman="" is="" now="" the="" seventh="" player="" in="" program="" history="" to="" eclipse="" 1,000="">
