Men’s and Women’s Track Opens Outdoor Season at Ursinus

The Lancaster Bible College men's and women's track team traveled to Collegeville, Pa. to Ursinus College to begin their 2023 outdoor season on Saturday. Battling a rainy and cold day, the Chargers managed to grab six new school records and two NCCAA qualifiers in just their first meet.
 
School Records
  • Junior Mitchell Gray continued his strong showing in the distance events from the winter finishing 4th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:15.34 and setting a new program record.
  • Freshman Kaylisa Montijo set a new school record in the triple jump with a distance of 8.91-meters (29' 02.75") helping her earn 6th place.
  • Freshman Rebecca Best set two new school records in the shot put and discus, throwing a distance of 9.49 meters (31' 01.75") in the shot put and 24.19 meters (79' 04") in the discus.
  • Freshman Marcy Foltz set a new school record in the javelin throw with 22.85 meters (74' 11").
  • Senior Kara Huber tied her pole vault record from earlier in the year with a vault of 2.90 meters (9-06.25), helping her earn 3rd place overall.
  • Junior Leah Bergey set a new record in the 100-meter hurdles while also winning the event with a time of 15.53 seconds.
 
NCCAA Qualifications
  • With her pole vault of 2.90-meters, Huber qualified for the 2023 NCCAA Outdoor Invitational in May.
  • With her time of 15.53 seconds, Bergey qualified for the 2023 NCCAA Outdoor Invitation as well in the 100-meter hurdles.

  • So. Jalen Glasgow – High Jump – 1.65-meters (5-5) – Tied for 5th Place
  • Jr. Emma Rohn – High Jump – 1.32-meters (4-4) – 8th Place
  • Fr. Kaylisa Montijo
    • Triple Jump – 8.91-meters (29-2.75) – 6th Place
    • Long Jump – 4.36-meters (14-3.75) – 6th Place
  • Sr. Kara Huber – Pole Vault – 2.90-meters (9-6.25) – 3rd Place
  • Sr. Leah Bergey – 100-meter Hurdles – 15.53 seconds – 1st Place
  • Women's 4x100 – 54.15 seconds – 2nd Place
  • Men's 4x400 – 4:05:57 – 4th Place
  • Women's 4x400 – 4:36:36 – 4th Place
 
Head Coach Melissa Baughman spoke highly of her program's grit… "despite the less-than-ideal conditions today, our athletes showed grit and determination. We had some positive takeaways from today's meet as well as some areas we can improve."
 
Up Next: The Chargers are back in action next Saturday at Millersville University for the Millersville Metrics on April 1st. Events are set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
