The Lancaster Bible College baseball team faced off against United East foe Penn St. Berks Lions on Friday afternoon, completing the 2-0 sweep. The Chargers won the first game 5-1 and the second 9-7. The Chargers improve to 10-19 overall and 7-7 in the United East, while the Lions fall to 8-16 overall and 7-7 in conference.

Game One, 5-1 Win

How It Happened: Junior
Brian Coburn opened the scoring for the Chargers, sending a double to center field in the 1
st inning, bringing home senior
Blake Greenly. The Lions tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning after a single brought in one run. It'd be the Chargers who continued to score runs as junior
Adam Naylor sent his first home run of the season over the fence, bringing in two runs in the 5
th inning. Then,
Dylan Witkowski and Greenly added to the mix with back-to-back solo home runs, completing the 5-1 win.

By the Numbers: The Chargers had nine hits for five runs and five RBIs… Witkowski, Coburn, and
Lucas McCormick were 2-3… Naylor, Greenly, and Witkowski each had a home run… Coburn got the win on the mound, allowing only six hits and one run while striking out 10 batters… several players had one hit for the Lions.

Game Two, 9-7 Win

How It Happened: The Lions were the first to find the scoreboard in the second game, jumping to a 1-0 lead after the top of the 1
st inning. The lead wouldn't last long though as Witkowski and Greenly again went back-to-back for solo home runs to make it a 2-1 Charger lead, their second home runs of the day. Lions tied it at 2-2 in the 3
rd, but Witkowski responded with his third home run in a row, and Coburn scored Greenly on a double, leading to a 4-2 lead after three innings. In the 4
th inning,
Kaden Hunt hit a sacrifice fly to center, bringing in
Evan Sareyka, and Witkowski singled to score Thade Hague. The Lions brought the deficit within one run in the 7
th inning at 6-5, but the 8
th inning proved huge for the Chargers, scoring three more runs after a Naylor home run and Hobdy and Witkowski doubles. In the 9
th, the Lions looked to make a rally, hitting a two-run home run, but the Chargers stopped them there and won 9-7.
By the Numbers: The Chargers had 12 hits for nine runs and nine RBIs… the Lions had 11 hits for seven runs and six RBIs… Witkowski went 4-5 for the Chargers with two runs, four RBIs, and two home runs… Greenly and Naylor added home runs of their own…
Andrew Workman got the win on the mound, allowing only six hits for three runs and 10 strikeouts… Templin went 4-5 for the Lions with one RBI.
