The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team hosted their first tri-match of 2023 at the Horst Athletic Center, earning 3-0 wins over both York College of Pennsylvania and Saint Elizabeth University on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers improve to 5-3 overall while the Spartans move to 7-4 overall and the Eagles drop to 1-4 overall.
vs York (Pa.) – Win, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-21)
How it Happened:
York (Pa.) got off to a fast start, jumping to an 8-3 lead after a six-point run saw several service aces get past the Chargers. Kills from
Chloe King and
Jessica Fletcher helped the Chargers even the score at 11-11, then LBC pulled away a bit with
Faith Hammond landing a kill. One last kill from King secured a hard-fought 25-20 set one win.
The two teams went back and forth in the early portion of the second set, highlighted by some great defense from junior libero
Leah Helman. The Chargers began to pull away later in the set as they had two different 4-point runs, including a pair of kills from
Morgan Fenstermacher and a service ace from
Tessa Kwiatkowski. LBC finished off set two with a 25-19 win thanks to a solo block from
Eden Belford.
Kills from King, Fletcher, and Hammond helped keep the score close in the third set as the Spartans fought to stay alive in the match. A pair of unorthodox kills from
Madeline Reed and Helman put the Chargers in front, but York (Pa.) kept it close for the remainder of the set. However, the Chargers kept it clicking and rolled to a 25-21 set win and a sweep of the Spartans.

- The Chargers won the battle in kills (36-24), blocks (7-5) and digs (60-49), while the Spartans had more aces (4-3)

Information to Know:
The Chargers are now 2-4 all-time against York (Pa.), making it two straight wins after defeating the Spartans in five sets in York, Pa. last season. Freshman
Eden Belford recorded her first career solo block to end the second set.
Jessica Fletcher eclipsed 50 kills on the season and currently had the second-most for the Chargers.
Leah Helman has surpassed 100 digs on the season after this match, putting her at 123 total digs for 2023.
vs St. Elizabeth – Win, 3-0 (25-9, 26-24, 25-13)
How it Happened:
It was all Chargers from the start as
Faith Hammond had several kills and a service ace to propel LBC to an early 14-3 lead. Kills from
Chloe King and
Morgan Fenstermacher kept the Eagles off the board, then a
Leah Helman service ace finished off set one with a 25-9 win.
After a 4-0 start to the second set for LBC, the Eagles show some life as they battled back and forth with some solid offense and a few service aces. A trio of kills from
Lea Sareyka maintained the tie, then an ace from
Tessa Kwiatkowski and a kill from King gave LBC a 22-20 lead. St. Elizabeth stayed even and forced extra points, but an ace from
Ashlynn Fisher and a kill from Hammond helped the Chargers secure a 26-24 set two win.
King led the early points of set three with a pair of kills and a service ace, then back-to-back aces from
Jessica Fletcher put LBC up 10-7. Coach Brubaker emptied the bench for the Chargers as several players saw their first collegiate action, and Lancaster Bible won the set 25-13 and secured a clean sweep of the Eagles.

From the Coach: Head Coach Julie Brubaker had this to say about her team's performance,
"I think we played really strong today and we played well against a solid team. Our defense was suffocating and allowed us to stay in system on our offense. It was a great effort today."
Information to Know: The Chargers are now 7-0 all-time against Saint Elizabeth and have now swept the Eagles five times. Junior
Leah Helman now sits five aces shy of 100 for her career. The Chargers saw the careers of many newcomers begin today as
Chloe Belford,
Ashley D'Andrea,
Hannah Jordan,
Crystal Lenk, and
Chloe Stenberg all played in a Charger uniform for the first time. Senior
Faith Hammond reached 300 career points after she had seven kills, one block, and two aces in the second game.
