Lancaster Bible College's Women's Volleyball team was defeated by McDaniel College in a thriller, 3-2. The Chargers' three-game win streak is snapped, and they now hold a record of 5-4. The Green Terror of McDaniel, on the other hand, move to an 8-3 record on the year.
How It Happened: In the first set, both sides traded points early, but Lancaster Bible sparked a 5-0 run behind a kill from
Morgan Fenstermacher. Throughout the rest of the first set, both teams traded points, and the Green Terror were able to slowly pick at the Chargers' lead to take a 20-19 lead late in the first set. After going down 22-20,
Jessica Fletcher had three kills late in the set to bring the Chargers a 25-24 lead, but the Green Terror finished on a 3-0 run to win the first set 27-25.
Things did not start off the Chargers' way in the second set as the Green Terror came out with a 6-1 lead, but Lancaster Bible quickly recovered with a 6-1 run of their own to tie it at seven. Lancaster Bible continued to pull away with an 18-12 lead later in the game. However, the Green Terror bounced back to a dominant 13-4 run that ultimately won them their second set 25-22.
Desperate for a win in the third set, the Chargers put together an early 7-1 run behind two kills from Fletcher to bring them to an 8-4 lead. McDaniel fought back keeping the game within reach for a while, but later in the set,
Faith Hammond strung together three straight kills in a 5-0 run, bringing the Chargers a 20-13 lead. The Green Terror were able to shorten the gap, but the Chargers pulled out the win in the third set 25-21. After starting the fourth set tied at three, the Chargers pulled away to an early 8-4 lead thanks to two service aces from
Leah Helman. Lancaster Bible continued to move out to a 12-5 lead, but the Green Terror strung together a 5-1 lead to make it 13-10. Both sides traded blows throughout the set, but the Chargers finished off the fourth set with three unanswered points to bring them a 25-21 victory.
In the fifth and final set, Lancaster Bible was hungry for a win, starting out with the first two points, but McDaniel got three unanswered. The Green Terror kept their foot on the pedal with a few aces and held an 8-5 lead at a crucial point in the set. The Chargers brought it back to a 6-8 deficit after a kill from Fletcher, but the Green Terror finished off the game on a dominant run, resulting in a 15-7 win.
By the Numbers: Jessica Fletcher recorded an outstanding 19 kills, and
Faith Hammond also added 10 of her own.
Morgan Fenstermacher had seven kills and eight block assists.
Leah Helman also posted 15 digs and three service aces for the Chargers. The Green Terror were led by Kenzie Mitchell's 15 kills.
Information to Know: After the loss, the Chargers are now 1-5 all-time against the Green Terror. Lancaster Bible is yet to get a road win against McDaniel. It was a record-setting night for many of the Chargers as senior
Morgan Fenstermacher broke her career-high in total blocks with eight, freshman
Jessica Fletcher also reached her career-high in kills with 19, and
Faith Hammond set a season-high in kills with 10. Fenstermacher has also now moved into 3rd place in program history with 114 block assists.
Leah Helman now moves to eighth all-time in digs with 899.
