Chargers Cruise to 3-0 Victory Over Defenders

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team squared off against the Defenders of Clarks Summit on Thursday night cruising to a 3-0 victory in the Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers improve to 6-4 overall while the Defenders fall to 0-12 overall.
 
How It Happened: The Chargers began the night jumping to a 3-0 lead behind an ace from freshman Tessa Kwiatkowski and kill by senior Chloe King. The Chargers continued to pack it on racing to an 18-6 lead. Closing out the first set was six straight points from the Chargers including a pair of kills from King and Chloe Belford.
 
Freshman Eden Belford opened the second set dishing out two kills of her own followed by three service aces from sophomore Madison Timberlake resulting in an 11-2 Chargers lead. Freshman Jessica Fletcher also got in the mix with a kill and two service aces of her own pushing the lead to 16-4. After some back-and-forth action, the Chargers won the second set 25-15.
 
The third set started similar to that of the first two sets as kills from Lea Sareyka and Chloe Stenberg gave the Chargers an early 5-1 lead. Another string of Charger attacks including kills from Chloe Belford, Stenberg, Sareyka, and two service aces from Hannah Jordan set the lead to 13-7. The Defenders started to gain momentum but freshman Chloe Belford along with freshman teammates Crystal Lenk, Stenberg, and Sareyka made sure it wasn't for long as they scored on all fronts making it a 21-10 ballgame. The Chargers ended the third set 25-10 as Sareyka racked up four service aces in a row to give the Chargers the 3-0 sweep.
 
By the Numbers: The Chargers led the kill battle 32-6 including 30 digs and 18 service aces… Chloe Belford and Morgan Fenstermacher had five kills each… Tessa Kwiatkowski dished out 16 total assists… Sareyka and Madison Timberlake had four aces each… Chloe Burhans had two kills for the Defenders.
 
Information to Know: This was the Chargers' ninth win in a row over the Defenders… the Chargers are now 9-14 all-time against the Defenders… the Chargers have four more non-conference matches before beginning United East Conference play on October 4, hosting Penn St. Harrisburg.
 
Up Next: The Chargers head to Frederick, Md. to battle against Hood and Lebanon Valley in a non-conference tri-match. Those game times are set for 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. respectively.
