Men's Volleyball Sweeps Home Tri-Match

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Volleyball team hosted a tri-match on Saturday featuring Elizabethtown and Penn St. Altoona. The Chargers defeated both teams 3-0 and 3-1 respectively, improving to 3-1 on the season while the Blue Jays fall to 0-2 and the Lions drop to 1-3.
vs Elizabethtown – W, 3-0 (25-21, 23-25, 29-27, 25-21)

How it Happened:
The Blue Jays started out hot by grabbing a 7-2 lead, then jumped out to a 10-3 advantage. Jake Rotelle ended the run with a kill, then Jordan Yoder had three kills to help trade points and keep the deficit manageable. It went back and forth throughout the middle of the set until a 6-1 run from Lancaster Bible, accented by three more kills and an ace from Yoder, swung the Chargers in front en route to a close 25-23 set one win.

The Chargers and Blue Jays traded points in the early portion of set two until kills from Dawson Forney and Rotelle helped create some separation for LBC. Forney sparked a pair of scoring runs off kills late in the set to lead the Chargers to a 25-19 win and give them a 2-0 match lead.

Lancaster Bible took control early in the third set with a 7-1 start, capped off by a service ace from Tyler Martin. Elizabethtown fought back to bring it within two, then the teams traded points for the whole middle of the set. Yoder and DJ Omogrosso combined for a block to put the Chargers up five, then they were able to keep that margin as Christian Herr finished off E-Town with a kill to end it 25-20.

By the Numbers:
- The Chargers led in blocks (2-1) and had 31 digs to the Blue Jays' 25
- Jordan Yoder and Jake Rotelle each had a team-high 11 kills to lead the way for LBC
- Dawson Forney added eight kills
- Christian Herr recorded 27 assists and Ben Latham led all players with 10 digs

vs Penn St. Altoona – W, 3-1 (25-18, 25-15, 23-25, 25-19)

How it Happened:
The Chargers and Lions both had early runs as they found themselves tied at 7-7, then a kill from Dawson Forney capped off a three-point spurt to give LBC the lead. Later, a five-point run saw another kill from Forney and a Tyler Martin service ace to put the Chargers up six. LBC did not surrender that lead as set one was taken by the Chargers, 25-18.

Martin had a pair of aces early in the second set to push the Chargers forward 5-2, then the Lions came back only to see LBC rattle off five in a row with two aces from Jake Rotelle. Aces were the story of the set as Elijah Heyworth, Christian Herr and Jordan Yoder all found holes in the defense to extend the lead to ten. Kills from Nicholas Marion and Hunter Davis ended set two 25-15.

Two big runs from the Chargers, spearheaded by three aces from DJ Omogrosso, put them up 11-5 in set three, but Altoona fought back and eventually took the lead, 19-18. Fighting back and forth, it was the Lions with their backs to the wall that took the set 25-23 to push it to four. Both teams wanted to power ahead in set four, but a 5-1 run in the middle of the set with three kills from Marion created enough separation for the Chargers as they finished out the victory 25-19 to take a 3-1 match win.
