Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Hunter Gerber

Chargers Fall in Season Opener

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Basketball team fell in their season opener at Ramapo on Friday night, 89-73. The Chargers fall to 0-1 overall while the Roadrunners improve to 1-0 to start the season. The Chargers head to Loyola (Md.) tomorrow, November 9 for an NCAA Division I exhibition set for 7:30 p.m.

How It Happened: The Chargers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a good layup from Grant Sareyka. The two teams continued to trade baskets with the Chargers reclaiming the lead 11-10 as Camden Hurst connected on a three-pointer at the 14-minute mark. However the Roadrunners used second chance points and points in the paint to bring their lead to 33-18 with just over five minutes left to play in the half. The Chargers looked to chip away before halftime but were unable to get anything going as the Chargers faced a 46-28 deficit at half.

Looking to turn things around in the second half, the Chargers were able to get it back within 15-points off several transition buckets including buckets from Sareyka and Luke Rumbaugh. Tyshaun Pulley added a jumper and Reaves Hooks added a three-pointer to bring it within 14 with 16:28 to go. The Chargers were able to get the deficit down to as much as 12-points budt were unable to get over the double-digit hump as the Roadrunners went on to win 89-73.

By the Numbers: The Chargers shot 39-percent from the floor, 30-percent from three, and 60-percent from the free throw line… the Roadrunners shot 51-percent from the field, 50-percent from the three point line, and 76-percent from the line… the Roadrunners outscored the Chargers in the paint 50-30 and in second chance points 21-10… Sareyka led the Chargers with 17 points and Hurst added 12 points… Peter Gorman had a game high 23 points for the Roadrunners.

Up Next: The Chargers head to Loyola (Md.) on Saturday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m.
