The United East Conference entered postseason play this past week with the Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team entering the tournament as the two-seed and earning a first round bye. The Chargers will host the seven-seed Penn St. Abington, who defeated Cedar Crest 3-1 in the first round, this Saturday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m.
The Chargers had a phenomenal regular season finishing a program-best 23-6 overall and 9-1 in conference. The squad is 11-2 in their last 13 matches including 10 total sweeps dating back to September 27
th. A sophomore-heavy team, the Chargers are led by
Lea Sareyka and
Eden Belford who lead with 295 and 240 total kills this season. Freshman
Madison Reap has added 235 total kills and a team-best 79 service aces this season. Sophomore
Madeline Reed has dished out a team-best 4.91 assists per set while senior
Emma Shaeffer has chipped in 3.21 assists per set. Defensively, the Chargers are led by standout senior libero
Leah Helman, who became the program's all-time dig leader while finishing the regular season with 560 total digs.
Looking back at this year's match with Penn St. Abington, the Chargers rushed to a 3-0 win at home on October 9 by scores of 25-18, 25-10, and 25-18. They were led by Reap with 12 kills and Sareyka with 11 kills. Junior
Riley Dodrer had four blocks and Helman tallied 16 digs. Since then, the Lions have improved to 21-5 overall and finished 7-3 in conference.
"We are looking forward to playoffs and competing against Penn St. Abington this weekend," said Head Coach
Julie Brubaker.
"We are hungry to extend our season and compete for a conference title."
The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the semi-finals on Tuesday, November 12 and will play the winner of three-seed St. Mary's (Md.) and six-seed Notre Dame (Md.).
