Moving On!! Chargers Down Abington to Advance to Semifinals

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team hosted their United East Quarterfinal playoff game on Saturday morning as the two-seed in the conference, taking down seven-seed Penn St. Abington 3-1 to advance to the United East Semifinals. The Chargers are now 24-6 on the season while the Lions end their 2024 season at 21-6 overall as a conference quarterfinalist.

How it Happened:
The teams traded points early with several service errors on both sides. The Chargers were able to break open set one early with a 10-1 scoring run with kills from sophomore Jessica Fletcher and freshman Madison Reap powering it, putting LBC up 14-5. The Chargers used another big run late in the set with six straight points, highlighted by three kills from sophomore Lea Sareyka, landing an ace as well to finish off set one 25-14.

The Chargers raced to a 7-0 lead in set two with two kills from Sareyka and an ace from Reap. The Lions, however, stormed back into it with a six-point run to tie the set at 9-9. Reap landed three kills to extend the lead to 14-10, but Abington used a run of eight straight points to end the set and win 25-19, tying the match at one-all.

The third set began like the first, both teams trading kills and errors with the margin being just one point. The Chargers changed that with six in a row behind two kills and a block from junior Riley Dodrer. Abington fought back later in the set to tie it at 17-17 after six straight, but just like the Lions in set two, Lancaster Bible closed the set with eight straight points and three aces from Sareyka to win 25-17 and come one set away from the semifinals.

It was all Chargers early in the fourth set as they started up 6-0 behind three kills from sophomore Eden Belford. The Lions kept pace with LBC throughout the set, but the Chargers were able to hang on and seal the deal behind a kill from Reap to win 25-16 and advance the the final four of the United East Conference.

By the Numbers:
- The Chargers led in kills 52-39 and landed nine aces to the Lions' four, while the teams tied with six blocks each
- Madison Reap tied her career-high with 17 kills to lead the Chargers
- Lea Sareyka added 10 kills and a team-high four service aces
