Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Chargers Grab Overtime Win to Seal 2024

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Basketball team traveled to Salisbury, Md. to compete against the Salisbury Sea Gulls in their final non-conference game of the season. The Chargers were able to pull out a 94-92 victory in overtime to move to 7-5 overall. The Sea Gulls drop to 11-4 overall.

How It Happened: The Sea Gulls threw the first punch jumping out to an early 12-3 lead against the Chargers. Despite the slow start, a three-pointer from Reaves Hooks at 13:55 opened the bucket as the Chargers were able to score 10 points in the next three minutes capitalized by a three-pointer form Camden Hurst to take a 16-14 lead.

Keeping their momentum, the Chargers were able to push the lead to six points behind another three-pointer from Reaves and then again behind a layup from Grant Sareyka. Hooks led all scorers at the half with 14 points including four three-pointers. The Chargers headed to halftime with a 39-37 lead after two free throws from freshman Isaac Smalls.

The second half was much of the same as the two teams battled back and forth trading the lead several times. It was the tale of two sides though as the Sea Gulls continued to pound the ball inside while the Chargers remained hot from beyond the arc. The Sea Gulls reclaimed the lead with 5:11 left to go and kept the lead until just 27-seconds left on the clock as Sareyka nailed a fastbreak three-pointer to tie the game at 84-84. The Sea Gulls last second heave fell short and both teams had another five-minutes to play.

Grit got the Chargers to overtime and it was grit that won the Chargers the game. Sareyka started overtime with a bang, sending in his second three-pointer to take the lead 87-84. The Sea Gulls though batted back to take a one point lead, 90-89 with just 1:47 to play. Another Chargers three, this time from Nile Austin, took a 92-90 lead before the Sea Gulls tied it yet again. It was a layup from Hurst with six seconds left that sealed the game as the Sea Gulls last second attempt fell short, the Chargers won in overtime 94-92.
