The Lancaster Bible College Men's Volleyball team traveled to Owings Mills, Md. for a non-conference competition with the Stevenson Mustangs on Wednesday night, falling in three close sets (25-22; 25-21; 26-24). The Chargers fall to 3-9 overall while the Mustangs improve to 4-4 overall.
How It Happened: Opening the first set down 2-0, the Chargers just couldn't quite get over the hump as they found themselves down by only a few points for the entirety of the set. It was at the end of the set that the Chargers got their best shot after a kill from
Dawson Forney brought them to withing one point, 21-20. But the Mustangs went on to win 25-22 in set one.
Set number two started just the same with the Mustangs leading 2-0, but the Chargers took the lead for the first time 6-4 after three straight blocks from
Craig Patrick and
Hunter Davis. The Chargers managed to keep the lead all the way until the 11
th point when the Mustangs reclaimed the advantage 12-11 and put together a 7-2 run to make it 19-13. Three straight kills from Forney put the Chargers within three points, 24-21, but the Mustangs won the second set 25-21.
Keeping the same pace as the previous two sets, the Chargers kept right behind the Mustangs until a five-point run capped by a kill from Patrick gave the Chargers a late lead 19-18. The Mustangs responded retaking the lead 21-20. With the match on the line, the Chargers tied the game at the 21
st, 23
rd, and 24
th point before the Mustangs secured the 3-0 win 26-24.
By the Numbers: The Chargers tallied 39 kills to the Mustangs' 42 kills… the Chargers had two aces, seven blocks and 24 digs… the Mustangs had three aces, six blocks, and 38 assists… Forney had a game-high 19 kills while
Jordan Yoder chipped in seven kills and Patrick added five kills and two blocks… Davis had one ace and two blocks…
Christian Herr dished out 31 assists and
Ben Latham had nine digs… Anthony Pezzino had a team-high 13 kills for the Mustangs.
Up Next: The Chargers return to the Horst Athletic Center on Wednesday, February 21 at 7:00 p.m. to take on Wilkes University.
