The Lancaster Bible College Men's Volleyball team hit the road for their second matchup with the Marymount (Va.) Saints falling 3-1. A team which they had gotten swept by just a few weeks prior, the Chargers were able to battle and even steal a set from the Saints. The Chargers move to 4-10 on the season while the Saints improve to a perfect 14-0 overall.
How It Happened: The first set began with both teams trading points until a 6-0 run from the Saints brought their lead to 16-7. The Chargers, however, kept with the fight stringing together their own 6-1 run to fight back to within three points, 21-18. It wasn't enough though as the Saints went on to win 25-20.
The second set started just the same with the Saints taking a decent 10-7 lead early on. The Chargers reclaimed the lead 15-13 behind a service ace from freshman
Jordan Yoder and block from sophomore
Christian Herr and graduate student
Hunter Davis. Two more blocks from Herr and one of Yoder's 17 kills on the night led to a 19-15 lead. The Chargers went on to tie the series 1-1 after Yoder drove home two more kills and a Chargers block sealed the deal.
The lead changed several more times in the third set with the Chargers finding themselves ahead 19-18. Tied at 21-21, the Saints proved too much going on a 4-1 run to give them the advantage 25-22. And in the final set, looking to send the game into a fifth set, the Chargers gave it all they had playing behind for much of the set. Facing a 19-15 deficit, the Chargers rattled off six points in a row to give them a late 21-20 lead. Keeping just one point ahead including a favorable 24-23 lead, the Saints clutched out three consecutive points to earn the 3-1 victory.
By the Numbers: The Chargers tallied 50 kills and six blocks on the night… the Saints registered 54 kills and five blocks… Yoder had a game-high 17 kills while
Dawson Forney chipped in 14 kills and
Michael Myers finished with eight…
Christian Herr dished out an incredible 40 assists while tallying four blocks…
