Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Hunter Gerber

Chargers Caps Off Senior Night with Five Set Thriller

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Volleyball team earned a hard fought 3-2 win over the Stevenson Mustangs on Friday night, a team that they had originally lost to 0-3 back in early February. The Chargers were also able to celebrate its three seniors in Hunter Davis, Michael Myers, and Elijah Heyworth. The Chargers improve to 12-13 overall and 5-0 in the United East while the Mustangs fall to 15-11 overall and are 5-3 in the Middle Atlantic.

How It Happened: The Chargers jumped out to a 3-1 lead behind kills from Nicholas Marion and Jake Rotelle, but the Mustangs cranked out three points in a row to take the lead 4-3. A small snippet of what the rest of the night looked like. Continuing to trade points, the Chargers were able to find a breakthrough at the right time as they got two kills from Rotelle and an additional kill from DJ Omogrosso to take the lead 24-17 and win the first set 25-18.

Winning the second set 25-19, the pressure was on the Mustangs in the third set facing elimination and they responded. After a 5-2 run in the middle of the set, the Mustangs were able to take a commanding 17-11 lead. But the Chargers didn't let the lead last long as they cranked out six straight points to tie the game 17-17. Keeping pace, it was a five-point run from the Mustangs that helped them get a 25-21 third set win to stay alive.

More back and forth action from both teams kept the crowd on their toes as the Mustangs stole the fourth set 25-20. Now in a win or take all situation, the lead changed five times before the Chargers took a 12-10 lead after a three-point spurt. A service error from the Chargers brought the lead to 12-11, but the final two of Dawson Forney's 20 kills earned the win for the Chargers, 15-11.

By the Numbers: The Chargers tallied 61 kills, 56 assists, and 61 digs… the Mustangs had 49 kills, eight blocks, and 53 digs… Forney had a game high and career high 20 kills and Rotelle finished with career high 18 kills and three aces… Kevin Bryant finished with seven kills and two blocks… Christian Herr dished out a career high 54 assists and two aces… Ben Latham had a career high 21 digs and Marion had a career high 13 kills… Tim Flanagan led the Mustangs with 16 kills.
