The Lancaster Bible College Men's and Women's Track & Field team had a successful day one at the NCCAA Indoor National Championships on Friday afternoon with several competitors participating. The men's team finished day one tied for 8
th place out of 15 teams with a total of seven points earned and the women were 11
th out of 15 teams with four points earned.
It was junior
David Helms and freshman
Seana Dougherty who highlighted the day new records in the 5000-meter run. Helms record-breaking time of 15:40.92not only earned him a 13
th place finish but also broke his former teammate's
Mitchell Gray's program record. On the women's side, freshman
Seana Dougherty finished her 5000-meter run at a time of 19:05.58 to place 8
th overall in a field of 17 runners.
In the field events, sophomore
Chase Gerber and freshman
Luke Richardson went 5
th and 6
th in the high jump to earn seven team points. Both Gerber and Richardson cleared 1.77-meters. Freshman
Emery McCombs finished 19
th in the weight throw with a distance of 11.98-meters and junior
Emma McMurray placed sixth in pole vault with a height of 2.67-meters to earn the women's team three points.
Sophomore
Micah Richardson competed in four events in the heptathlon including a 60-meter dash, long jump, high jump, and shot put. Richardson finished top five in the long jump and high jump events.
Cedarville is leading the way on the women's team side with 41.3 points while Campbellsville and Cedarville are tied on the men's side at 46 points.
The Chargers will wrap up competing tomorrow with several more competitors.
