Helms Earns Second NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) released their weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, with the Chargers' David Helms (Jr.) earning Track & Field Athlete of the Week. David earns his second straight weekly honor from the NCCAA and the first two of 2026 that have been announced.

Helms earned his third straight weekly honor of the season after his two top-3 finishes at the Alvernia Winter Invite on Saturday. David finished in second in the 5,000-Meters with a time of 15:14.96, trailing only unattached runner Aiden Gonder to make him the top collegiate finisher in the event. He also notched a third-place finish in the 3,000-Meters with a time of 8:54.39, breaking the LBC program record in the event by about half a second. Helms currently ranks first in the United East in the Mile, 3,000-Meters, and 5,000-Meters, as well as the top time in the NCCAA in the 5,000-Meters so far this season at 15:10.80 from back on December 5. David also cracks the top-50 in all of NCAA Division III in the 5,000-Meters, currently ranked 38th in the nation.

The Chargers are back in action this Saturday, January 24 as they travel across town to compete in the Coach I Invite hosted by Franklin & Marshall College beginning at 9:35 a.m.
