Hurst, Bruner Named NCCAA Student-Athletes of the Week

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) released their weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, with the Chargers' Camden Hurst (Jr.) and Elly Bruner (Jr.) each earning NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week honors for Men's Basketball (Hurst) and Women's Indoor Track & Field (Bruner).
 
Hurst continued to drive the Chargers' offense as he scored 53 total points across their two games this past week, leading LBC to a 2-0 record and improving to a perfect 7-0 in United East play. Camden scored 26 points on 9-11 from the field in just 16 minutes against Penn College on Wednesday, then added 27 points on Saturday at Valley Forge on 11-15 from the field. Hurst shot 7-8 on the week from 3-point range and added 12 total rebounds and eight total assists, leaving LBC as the only unbeaten United East team so far this season. Cam currently ranks 32nd in all of NCAA Division III in scoring at 21.5 points per game, leading the United East Conference and ranking fifth in the NCCAA in scoring as well. As a team, the Chargers rank 12th in NCAA Division III in scoring offense at 91.7 points per game and are averaging 103.4 points per game against conference opponents this season.
 
Bruner earned her first career NCCAA weekly honors with two top-10 finishes at the Coach I Invite on Saturday in both the High Jump and the Long Jump. Elly placed fifth in the High Jump with a height of 1.50 Meters and set a new personal-best in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.03 Meters, placing seventh out of 42 competitors. Bruner ranks first in the United East in all three of Long Jump, High Jump, and Triple Jump while also tying for third in the NCCAA in High Jump and fifth in the Triple Jump.
 
Hurst and the Men's Basketball team have two games at home this week as they host Penn St. Abington on Wednesday, January 28 at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Saturday evening showdown with Cairn in the Horst Athletic Center on January 31 at 6:00 p.m. Bruner and the Women's Indoor Track & Field team head to Alvernia on Saturday as they compete in the PLEX Shootout beginning at 9:00 a.m.
