The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team completed play in the Haverford Invitational in Haverford, Pa. on Saturday afternoon, losing to host Haverford 3-0 before earning their first victory of the season 3-0 against Misericordia to split the day. The Chargers move to 1-2 overall while the Fords improve to 3-1 overall and the Cougars move to 1-3 overall.

How it Happened:
The Chargers took an early 3-2 lead in set one after a kill and a service ace by
Lea Sareyka (Sr.), then Haverford seized the lead after a four-point run. LBC powered ahead after a kill from
Eden Belford, but the Fords won seven of the next eight points to take control of the set. The Chargers came within three late after several assists and an ace by
Tessa Kwiatkowski (Sr.), but Haverford held on to take set one 25-20.

The Fords took control right away in set two with a 6-0 start, extending the early lead to 11-1 off a block. The Chargers tried to chip away as they went on a four-point run ending with a kill by
Hannah Helmer (Fr.), then a block from Helmer and
Samantha Hey (So.) pulled LBC within five at 15-10. An ace from
Madison Reap (Jr.) cut the lead to two, then the Chargers fended off four set points late before Haverford won the set off a LBC serving error 25-23 to take a 2-0 match lead.

Sareyka, Helmer, and
Jessica Fletcher (Sr.) each had kills early in set three for LBC, but Haverford built their lead to seven as they led 16-9. Both
Eden Belford and
Chloe Belford (Sr.) landed kills to keep the Chargers in it, then they once again fended off four set points in a row with two kills by Fletcher and one by
Chloe Belford, but the Fords closed it out 25-21 to clinch the home sweep over the Chargers.

How it Happened:
The Chargers got off to a 6-4 start as all six points were earned on kills, extending their lead to 10-6 on a kill by
Chloe Belford.
Lea Sareyka landed an ace for a six-point lead, then the Chargers scored six of the next seven points for a 20-10 advantage. A pair of Cougar errors helped the Chargers secure the 25-16 set win for their first set victory of the season.

Jessica Fletcher started the second set with a kill each, then later on
Lyndsie Bomgardner (Fr.) landed an ace to cap a three-point burst for 9-6 lead. Misericordia came within one before the Chargers exploded for a six-point scoring run, seeing kills from
Eden Belford,
Samantha Hey, and Fletcher as the Chargers led by seven. The Cougars made a late run with five of six points, but a kill and a block from Hey helped seal a 25-19 set win for the Chargers.

The Cougars grabbed the early lead in set four at 4-2, but the Chargers found their rhythm as they rattled off their longest run of the match at eight straight, with four service aces from
Kaitlyn Weitzel (Jr.) powering the run. Misericordia had a run of five points later in the set to tie it at 13-13, then swung ahead by two before an ace from
Madison Reap got LBC back on top. The Chargers added three in a row capped by an ace by
Maggie Kwiatkowski (Jr.) to lead 20-17, then sealed the set win 25-21 on a block by Fletcher and Hey to claim their first victory of the season in a sweep to close out the weekend.

The Chargers are now 0-4 all-time against Haverford with their most recent matchup dating back to 2016 and this was their first-ever win against Misericordia after losing their first two matchups in 2018 and 2019. Today's win over Misericordia marks the first career win for
Justin Brubaker as the head coach of Lancaster Bible.
Jessica Fletcher was named to the Haverford Invitational's All-Tournament team after totaling 33 kills on a .320 attack percentage and 22 digs for the weekend.
Lea Sareyka moved up the ranks again today as she now sits in 6th-place all-time for career kills with 747, passing Emily Olson (2013-16) on the list.
Eden Belford surpassed 500 career kills in the first match against Haverford, becoming just the 17th player in program history to reach the 500-kill milestone.
