2024: Shimmel returned to action in 2024, playing in 33 games with 23 starts and five pitching appearances. He hit for an impressive .343 average with 23 hits in 67 at-bats, drawing 14 walks and driving in 17 RBI on the year. Shimmel had four multi-hit games and a season-high three RBI on March 20 in a road win over Valley Forge. On the mound, Owen threw for 11 2/3 innings with a 3.09 ERA, allowing just four earned runs and striking out 11 batters.

2022: Shimmel jumped right into the rotation for the Chargers, pitching in 12 games and making eight starts. He threw a team-high 46.1 innings with the fourth-lowest WHIP on the team at 1.64. His team-high 53 strikeouts were the most in a season since 2018 when Zack Leonard had the same total, and that total also ended his season at a rate of 10.3 Ks per 9 innings. His best outing came at home against Penn College on March 18 where he threw a season-high 7.0 innings and allowed just one earned run on six hits, striking out a season-high 10 batters.
