Women’s Volleyball Lose Tough Home Opener

Lancaster, PA- The Chargers hosted their home opening tri-match against Delaware Valley and Wesley on Wednesday night. The Chargers lost to Aggies of Delaware Valley in five hard fought sets (20-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-23, 6-15). Later in the night, Lancaster Bible lost to Wesley in three well played sets (19-25, 24-26, 24-26).

In the first match the Aggies jumped out to a two set lead before the Chargers took control. Behind senior Hannah Noble (Littlestown, PA) team leading sixteen kills the Chargers tied up the match at two sets apiece forcing a fifth set. But the comeback stalled and Lancaster Bible lost the deciding fifth set 6-15.

Other key contributors were sophomore Katie McAllister (Etters, PA) with seven kills along with an impressive five blocks. Also, three freshmen played key roles, which bodes well for the team improvement. Setter Elissa Hunsberger (Norristown, PA) led the team in assists. Also, libero Lauren Hurd (Ellendale, PA) and defensive specialist Brittney Becker (Sykesvile, PA) made strong impressions in the back row, both tallying twelve digs, and a combined seven aces.

In the second match of the night the Chargers refused to give up against the Wesley Wolverines. In the second and third sets Lancaster Bible's late game rallies forced extra play, but the early deficits proved too much to overcome losing each set 24-26.

Once more, the team was lead by Captain Hannah Noble in kills and three aces. Again freshman Lauren Hurd played a critical role in the match, leading the team in serve receive. Setter Elissa Hunsberger dished out 26 assists and recorded three aces in the loss.

Coach Lauren Mable commented on the night's events, “We are improving every time we step on the court. We will continue to gain confidence as our level of play rises.”

Chargers look for their first win in 2008 as they travel to Trinity located in Washington D.C. for a match at 7:00 this Friday evening.
