For the Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team, Saturday was probably par for the course. Overcoming adversity, battling for a win, fighting tiredness and running out of gas at the end was just another day at the office for the Chargers this season.
LBC, down two sets to one, battled back to defeat Immaculata University 3-2 in the first match, before bowing to Delaware Valley College 3-1 in their second match.
The Chargers (4-8) defeated the Mighty Macs (2-7) by game scores of 25-21, 20-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-8. The comeback came without the services of senior
Lauren Robertson, who sprained her ankle during the first set.
"We played tough during the whole match," Charger Head Coach Lauren Mable said. "
Lauren Heliger played great and carried the team during our first match."
Heliger led the Chargers with 18 kills, while sophomore
Elissa Hunsberger had 12 kills, 17 digs and 17 assists and freshman
Jenae Almas added 11 kills and 13 digs.
In the Chargers second match, which started 30 minutes after their five-set victory, LBC raced out to a 1-0 lead before losing the last three sets. The game scores were 23-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-21.
"I don't think they out played us," Mable said. "I think a lot of the mistakes we made were based on tiredness and we beat ourselves."
The Chargers host their second match of the season on Tuesday when they face Mount Aloysius at 7:00 p.m.
