Chargers Trounce Sentinels, 5-2

Shelby Welsh celebrates her first collegiate goal
Coming down the home stretch of their regular season schedule, the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team is trying to gain confidence for the post-season one game at a time. Wednesday's, 5-2 win against Patrick Henry gained the Chargers confidence on the offensive side of the field, but also showed they need improvements in the defensive end.

Kristina Clairmont scored her eighth and ninth goals of the season as the Chargers scored three goals in the first 22 minutes to build an early lead. Ally Brown scored 7:45 into the game off a pass from Clairmont and Whitney Heise stretched the lead to two on an unassisted goal at the 20:06 mark. Clairmont's first goal two minutes later made it 3-0.

The Sentinels' Emily Farris found a hole in the LBC defense and scored just before halftime to make it, 3-1.

Chargers' Head Coach Ken Craul was not happy with the team's defensive play throughout the game, especially on the plays where Patrick Henry scored.

"I think when we possess the ball for most of the game, it is difficult to stay sharp in our defensive end," Craul said. "We did have good ball work and created a lot of good scoring opportunities, but it was a big disappointment that they scored twice on three shots."

Shelby Welsh and Clairmont scored five minutes apart midway through the second half to build the lead to four. Welsh's goal was the first of her collegiate career. Patrick Henry's Taylor Eckel scored with six minutes to go to make it 5-2.

"It's going to be nice to get a lot of players healthy over fall break," Craul said. "We want to finish out the regular season strong and start looking forward to the playoffs."

The Chargers are back in action on Monday when they host Penn State Berks at 3:30 p.m.
