Chargers Shutout in East Region Final - Await At-Large Bid

Playing in the NCCAA Division II East Region Final for only the second time in school history, the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team was looking to earn their way to the NCCAA National Tournament. After Saturday's, 4-0 loss to Baptist Bible, the Chargers will have to wait and see if they are given an at-large bid to Nationals.

After a scoreless first half, the host Defenders scored twice in the first eight minutes of the second half to take control of the game.

"The final score today does not reflect the effort," LBC Head Coach Ken Craul said. "We played very well only to have a couple of mistakes turn into goals."

BBC would add two more goals later in the half to seal the win. LBC (13-7) actually out shot BBC, 13-11 and held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

Despite the loss [their second of the season to BBC], Craul and his players have a new outlook on what they can do as a team and feel as though they belong on the same level as BBC.

"I think our players now realize that we belong to be here, not just as the runner up, but as a team that can compete with BBC for the East Region Championship," Craul said.

The Chargers will now await word on Sunday night whether or not they will join the party in Florida and compete for an NCCAA Division II National Championship. One thing that helps LBC is the fact they were ranked number one in the country prior to the East Region Final.

Craul doesn't want his players to worry about their bid or how they lost in the East Region Final. He wants them to reflect on how far the team has come in just one year. They were 2-14-2 last season.

"I want them to look back over the season and see what they have accomplished," Craul said. "They have all been a part of moving LBC women's soccer to a new level."

If the Chargers are given an at-large bid, they will play in Kissimmee, Florida, November 10-13.
