After crushing NCCAA East Region rival Valley Forge Christian on Monday, the Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team faced two tough opponents on Wednesday night in Washington [Md.] College and Wesley College. As was the case on Monday, they passed the test with flying colors.
Coming back from a 2-1 deficit in the opener against Washington to win, 3-2 and then defeating Wesley, 3-1, the Chargers swept the tri-match and improved their record to 11-12 for the year.
After dropping the opening set to the Shorewomen, LBC tied it at 1-1 with a 25-22 second set win. Washington responded winning the third set by that same 25-22 score. With their backs against the wall and facing match point at 24-23, LBC won the next three points to take the fourth set. The Chargers cruised in the third set, winning 15-3.
"The Washington match was just a great match," LBC Head Coach
Lauren Bewley said. "It was a fun match to be a part of."
Lauren Heliger led the way with 17 kills and 19 digs.
Peggy Compton had 10 kills, 20 assists and 17 digs, while
Hailee Growden had 12 kills, 22 assists and 16 digs.
Hannah Fogle added 12 digs for LBC.
In the nightcap, LBC went up 2-0 before dropping the third set, 28-26. They quickly rebounded and won the fourth set, 25-13.
"It was nice to win back-to-back matches against two tougher opponents," Bewley said. "This gives us momentum heading into the weekend."
The weekend is filled with more solid opponents for the Chargers. They will face Stevenson, Farleigh Dickinson-Florham, Goucher and Marymount at the Goucher Tournament in Towson, Md. The Chargers take on Stevenson at 3:00 p.m. on Friday to kick-off the tournament.
