Having won back-to-back games for the first time since 2008, the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team ventured to Lycoming College looking to make it three in a row.
Lycoming's Leslie Kester made sure that did not happen. Kester's goal and two assists helped the Warriors to a 4-2 victory Wednesday in Williamsport, Pa.
Kester, a Lancaster County native, scored in the 38th minute to give Lycoming a 3-1 lead. LBC's
Kristina Clairmont scored her second goal of the game just two minutes later on a breakaway to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Chargers would not get closer.
"We had several mistakes in the first half that led to goals," LBC Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "I thought we played much better in our defensive end in the second half."
Despite playing well defensively in the second half, the Chargers' offense went silent. Managing just one shot on goal in the final 45 minutes, the Chargers created no opportunities to tie the score.
Lycoming's Spencer Larson scored in the 72nd minute to put the game away for the Warriors (1-1).
Though they lost, Craul thought the Chargers learned some key things about themselves.
"This was a good test for us," Craul said. "We did not panic when Lycoming possessed the ball against us and we did a great job of maintaining our composure."
Craul also said the team needed to be better with the ball.
"Our first touch is not where it needs to be," Craul said. "We also need to be more physical."
The Chargers (2-2) are off until Monday when they face NCCAA Division II East Region rival Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, Pa. at 4:00 p.m.
Notes:
-Clairmont's two goals give her three for the season. Because of injury, she only had four all of last season.
