The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team won again on Thursday, beating Keuka, 2-0. It was the Chargers' 14th straight win and clinched them at least a tie for the top spot in the NEAC playoffs in early November. If LBC wins on Saturday, they will clinch the top seed.
Ally Brown broke a scoreless tie with 12:35 remaining in the first half with her 15th goal of the season. Off
Jenna Godwin's free kick, Brown headed the ball up and over Keuka goalkeeper, Morgan Engelbert to put LBC up 1-0.
Though the score remained 1-0, the Chargers dominated play and let the Storm have very few chances.
Whitney Heise put the game away with 4:38 left with her 12th goal of the year.
"We weren't really sure what to expect from Keuka," Chargers' Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "They have played well in all of their NEAC games and they have a quality team. We figured out some things in the first half and made some adjustments that worked out in the second half."
Despite the 14-game winning streak, Craul said the Chargers are still working on a few things before the postseason.
"We wanted to work on possessing the ball and distributing the ball from left to right today and I think we did that fairly well for the most part," Craul said. "We got stuck on the same side a couple of times, but for the most part I thought the ladies did a good job."
Craul credited the Chargers' four defensemen on Thursday as well for their solid play. The shutout was LBC's eighth of the season, surpassing the seven they had last season.
"The back four played very well, especially in the midfield when we had the ball in Keuka's end," Craul said. "[Kristina] Clairmont played well in her new role back there and it's a credit to her being a team player and accepting that role."
LBC held a 26-4 advantage in shots and a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Chargers [14-1 overall, 9-0 NEAC] host SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday and can lock up the number seed for the NEAC playoffs with a win. Saturday's game is also Senior Day as the Chargers will honor their four seniors prior to the 3:00 p.m. game.
