After all-but wrapping up their spot in the North Eastern Athletic Conference playoffs with a 3-1record this past weekend at the NEAC South Division Weekend, the Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team hosted non-conference foe Shenandoah on Tuesday night. The Hornets outlasted the Chargers, 3-1 [26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 25-14].
The two teams battled back and forth in the opening set with the Chargers fighting off a set point to tie the set at 24-24. Shenandoah won the next two points however to take the 1st set, 26-24. The second and third sets featured much of the same, with LBC winning the third set, 25-21. Shenandoah buckled down and took an early lead in the fourth set and cruised to a 25-14 clinching win.
LBC's
Lauren Heliger led all players with 15 kills and 18 digs. It was her third straight match with double-digit kills and digs.
Lauren Donato added nine kills and 13 digs, while
Rachel Olson had six kills and 13 digs. Senior
Lauren Hurd had 16 digs, while freshaman Katie Coomber had 32 assists.
"I thought Katie played well and was very consistent with her sets," LBC Head Coach
Lauren Bewley said. "As a team I thought we played with them, but didn't out play them. We still have room to grow and still need more consistency with our team play."
The Chargers are back in action this weekend when they take part in the Goucher Family Tournament in Towson, Md. LBC will play twice on Friday and twice on Saturday.
