Heise's Record Breaking Day Leads Chargers Into NEAC Final

One to go.

The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team set a goal during the pre-season that they wanted to win a NEAC Championship. Sunday afternoon, they'll get their chance. Whitney Heise scored three goals and assisted on another as the Chargers crushed Penn St. Berks, 4-0 in the NEAC Semi-Finals on Saturday in Lancaster.

Heise started things off just 4:12 into the game as she collected a pass from Evelyn Stauffer and scored past Nittany Lions' goalkeeper Savannah Cramer who did get a hand on the ball.

"Whit's first goal was huge for us," Chargers' Head Coach Ken Craul said. "I think it set the tone for the game and it did take some of the nervousness away that some of the ladies had."

Heise scored her second of the day at the 26:23 mark when she collected the ball at the top of the box and fired the ball into the net. Heise's nicest play of the day came with 1:09 left in the half when she slid to get to the ball before it crossed the end line and found a wide open Ally Brown who headed the cross into the right-hand corner for a 3-0 LBC lead.

"I think the goal before the end of the half was the dagger," Craul said. "The difference between 3-0 at the half and 2-0 is a big one. It was a great pass by Whitney."

Heise completed the hat trick at 66:47 when she took a pass from Monica Horning and chipped it past Cramer who was charging out. With three goals and an assist, Heise now holds the record for most goals [three] and points [seven] in a single NEAC playoff game. (The NEAC is in its 8th year.)

LBC goalkeeper Emily Lloyd made five saves for her fifth straight shutout and 12th of the season.

"It's hard to maintain composure when the ball isn't on your end of the field, but Emily did a nice job today," Craul said. "She was a bit nervous I think, but she made one or two saves early for us that were important."

LBC [18-1] will face Penn St. Abington on Sunday with a chance to earn the school's first-ever NCAA Championships bid. Abington beat fellow branch campus, Penn St. Harrisburg, 1-0 in the second semi-final to advance to their first-ever NEAC Final as well.

"We are looking to win a championship," Craul said. "This was a goal of ours from the very beginning and we are one step away. Penn St. Abington is a good team and I think on Sunday we need to make sure we settle ourselves a bit better than we did today. But the ladies will be excited and ready to go."

Sunday's game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Charger Field.

Notes:
-Heise and Brown each have 18 goals this season. The LBC record for most goals in one season belongs to Hannah Gruver who scored 21 during the 2004 season. Brown is two points from tying Gruver's record of 50 points in one season.

-LBC last allowed a goal on October 13, when they beat the College of St. Elizabeth 6-1, a span of 459 minutes and 24 seconds.
