LBC Moves to 3-0 in NEAC Play with a 4-1 Win Over Penn St. Berks

Another NEAC game, another NEAC win for the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team. Kathryn Ritter scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Chargers to a 4-1 win over Penn St. Berks and their fourth straight win. Ally Brown, Whitney Heise and Evelyn Stauffer also scored for the Chargers who are now 3-0 in NEAC play.

Brown opened the scoring just seven minutes into the game off a feed from Ritter. After Brown ran to the ball, she put it past Nittany Lions' goalkeeper Savannah Cramer into the top right corner. Just 12 minutes later, Heise scored her fourth goal of the season after she gathered a rebound off of her own shot and put it past Cramer.

Down, 2-0 at halftime, Penn St. Berks began to control more of the play early in the second half and finally scored with 33:02 remaining. Lyndsay Naughton scored off a rebound to cut the deficit to one. It was the first goal scored on LBC in 283:41 [just over three full games].

Ritter scored on a great cross from freshman Monica Horning to help the Chargers' recapture a two-goal lead. Stauffer scored her first collegiate goal with 9:30 left to put the game away for LBC.

"It's another nice win," Chargers' Head Coach Ken Craul said. "Anytime you win it's a good feeling, but there are things we need to work on, specifically getting consecutive touches on the ball."

LBC [4-1, 3-0] out shot Penn St. Berks [1-3-1, 1-1-1] by a margin of 28-6 and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Chargers have Wednesday off, before playing one of their biggest games of the season on Thursday against Baptist Bible College. The Chargers and Defenders battled three times last season, with BBC winning twice, before LBC won in the NCCAA National Third Place Game in Florida.

"I doubt the team will have any trouble getting excited for that game," Craul said. "We will enjoy today's win, but we will begin preparing for BBC tomorrow and we need to respond to the challenge."

The BBC-LBC game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, after the men's soccer game at 3:00 p.m.
