LBC Splits East Region Matches

The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team faced Philadelphia Biblical on Tuesday night for the first time since beating them in the NCCAA East Region Final last October. The Chargers came out flat and the Crimson Eagles earned a little redemption, beating LBC, 3-0. The Chargers lost, 25-12, 25-19, 26-24.

Lauren Heliger, last week's NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week, had 11 kills and 13 digs for LBC, while Lauren Donato had nine kills and nine digs. The Chargers played without freshman Rachel Olson because of an injury. Olson is currently third on squad in kills (61) and digs (60).

"We struggled to adjust to the new line-up and made too many errors," LBC Head Coach Lauren Bewley said. "The changes we made later in the match seemed to work better, but by then it was too late and we ran out of time."

In the Chargers' second match, against Valley Forge Christian, LBC played much better and defeated the Patriots, 3-0 [25-10, 25-13, 25-9]. Brittney Becker and Donato each had seven kills, while Heliger added nine digs. Freshman Katie Coomber had 24 assists, while fellow freshman Niki Endy had three kills and five digs.

Bewley was pleased with the Chargers' serving, which produced 16 aces.

"We were more efficient with our serving," Bewley said. "Valley Forge has improved, but we played well."

LBC (8-2, 3-0) has Wednesday off before hosting NEAC rival Penn St. Berks on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

"Hopefully we can get a good practice in on Wednesday and fix a few things," Bewley said.

Notes:
-Lauren Hurd surpassed the 200-ace mark with six aces in the two matches. She now has 201 for her career.
