Falling behind 12-0 in the opening set of a volleyball match is never a good thing and it proved true once again on Thursday night as the Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team couldn't recover from a rough start and lost to NEAC foe, Penn St. Berks, 3-0. The Nittany Lions won, 25-12, 26-24, 25-20.
The Chargers [8-3, 3-1] did not go quietly in the second set as they led, 24-22, but the Nittany Lions' went to their strength, 6'1" hitter Amy Shelton, and won the last four points of the set, all but crushing the Chargers' hopes.
"We played outside of ourselves tonight," LBC Head Coach
Lauren Bewley said. "We didn't do the things we normally do well - very well tonight and we have to get better."
Junior
Lauren Heliger had 12 kills and 11 digs to lead LBC, while freshman
Lauren Donato chipped in with seven kills and 11 digs.
"We continue to show that we have potential, but we need to keep trusting one another throughout the whole match," Bewley said.
One thing Bewley was happy with was LBC's serving.
"We served tough," Bewley said. "I was pleased with the lack of service errors."
The Chargers are off this weekend and will return to action on Tuesday when they head north to Clarks Summit, Pa. and take on NCCAA East Region rival Baptist Bible. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
