After giving up a late goal in their season opening loss to Alvernia, the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team thought they would provide their own late-game heroics.
After getting fouled just outside the box late in the first overtime,
Ally Brown crossed a free kick to
Karyn Harkness who headed in the game winner with nine seconds remaining in the first overtime for a 3-2 Chargers' win.
"I thought we played well," LBC Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "Goucher gave us a lot of possession and we finally recognized it later in the game and used it to our advantage."
Brown opened the game with her first goal of the season 2:11 into the first half. Brown's unassisted goal was also the first of the season for LBC, who was shutout in their season opener.
"Ally played very good tonight," Craul said. "She played good defense from her outside mid position and really played well off the ball as well."
After Goucher scored twice in five minutes late in the first half, LBC senior
Kristina Clairmont scored off a pass from freshman
Monica Horning to knot the score at 2-2 with 1:27 left in the first half.
LBC had the majority of the chances in the second half, but could not convert until Harkness won the game in the first overtime.
"We looked better tonight than we did in the opener against Alvernia," Craul said. "There are still things to work on though, especially getting consecutive touches and opening up the field."
The Chargers are off until Friday when they travel to Morrisville, N.Y. to take on SUNY Morrisville. The game, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., will be the first North Eastern Athletic Conference game for LBC.
Notes:
-Clairmont's goal was the 34th of her career, extending her career lead to three over Nicole Cooper.
-Brown had three points or more in a game six times in 2010.
