Box Score The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end on Monday night as the Chargers fell to Swarthmore, 2-1 in non-conference action. The loss is the first for LBC since falling to Penn St. Berks, 2-1 on September 11.
After a scoreless first half, the Garnet's Amber Famiglietti was credited with the first goal of the game as LBC scored on its own goal. The Chargers did not trail for long however, as senior
Whitney Heise scored her 15th goal of the season 1:26 later to knot the game at 1-1.
With 15:50 to play however, Swarthmore's Emily Gale scored her first goal of the season to give the Garnet's a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish. The Garnet's outshot the Chargers, 33-3 and held a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.
LBC senior goalkeeper
Emily Lloyd made a season-high 12 saves in the loss.
"Tonight was a good test for us," Craul said. "They are a good team and I think this will serve us well as we head into the postseason."
Swarthmore is currently in third place in the Centennial Conference and has played some of the top teams in the region this season. They controlled play for much of the 90 minutes, but Craul said he was fairly happy with the Chargers' effort.
"I thought we hung with them and the two goals they scored weren't the prettiest," Craul said. "I think we would definitely like to have that second goal back, but good teams get those breaks and we have to learn to create breaks for ourselves."
LBC is off until Saturday when the travel to Cobleskill, N.Y. to take on SUNY Cobleskill at 1 p.m. They will wrap-up the regular season on Monday at St. Elizabeth.
Notes:
-Monday marked the first time Swarthmore and Lancaster Bible had played one another in women's soccer.
