Chargers Tame Tigers

Box Score The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team got back into the win column in a big way on Saturday as they defeated SUNY Cobleskill, 7-0 in Cobleskill, N.Y. After losing for the first time in a month on Monday to Swarthmore, the Chargers earned their 13th win of the season on Saturday and their 10th NEAC win.

Chargers' sophomore Monica Horning recorded her third hat trick of the season on Saturday, bringing her season total to 18, just three away from tying the school record. Whitney Heise added two goals of her own, bringing her season total to 17. Horning and Heise combined for 29 goals last season and are already at 35 this season. Seniors Ally Brown and Kelsee Perkins also scored for LBC. Perkins' goal is the first of her collegiate career, coming in her 77th career game.

"Today was the best we have played in a few weeks," Chargers' Head Coach Ken Craul said. "We talked a lot about effort last night and we showed up today."

Goalkeeper Emily Lloyd made three saves for her sixth shutout this season.

The Chargers will wrap up their regular season on Monday at St. Elizabeth at 3:00 p.m. Should LBC win, they will finish with an 11-1 record and 33 points in the NEAC standings. Penn St. Berks is currently in first place with 31 points. Both teams have one game remaining. Penn St. Berks does not play until next Saturday, Oct. 27, when they will face Penn St. Harrisburg, who currently sits in third place.

Penn St. Harrisburg currently has 27 points with two games remaining. Should they win both remaining games, they too will finish with 33 points, however LBC would win the regular season title based upon the Chargers' 2-1 victory over Penn St. Harrisburg on Oct. 6. If Penn St. Berks wins on Saturday, they will win the regular season title with 34 points and host the NEAC Playoffs on November 3-4.

In addition to finishing their regular season next week, LBC will also host the NCCAA Division II East Region Final next Saturday, Oct. 27. They will take on the winner of the Baptist Bible/Valley Forge Christian semi-final which will be played Thursday in Clarks Summit, Pa. at 3:00 p.m. LBC defeated both teams earlier this season, beating BBC, 2-1 in Clarks Summit, Pa. on Sept. 13 and crushing Valley Forge Christian, 10-0 in Phoenixville, Pa. on Sept. 25. Should LBC not win the NEAC title and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament, a win in Saturday's East Region Final would assure them a spot in the NCCAA National Tournament which will be held Nov. 7-10 in Kissimmee, Fla.
