Chargers Wrap-Up Regular Season with Victory

Box Score The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a 3-1 victory over St. Elizabeth on Monday in Morristown, N.J. Chargers' senior Ally Brown scored two goals 3:50 apart early in the second half to help break a 1-1 tie.

LBC freshman Bethany Stein opened the scoring 12:39 into the game with her 11th goal of the season, but St. Elizabeth's Valerie Lesko scored three minutes later to knot the game at 1-1. It stayed that way through halftime before Brown scored at  47:27 off a pass from Monica Horning. Brown's insurance goal 3:50 later spurred the Chargers on as their play improved dramatically from the first half to the second half.

"We just don't seem to do very well on Monday's," Chargers' Head Coach Ken Craul said. "We came out flat in the first half, but in the second half, we saw much better play from the ladies and they actually played very well."

LBC (14-4, 11-1 NEAC) outshot the Screaming Eagles, 23-9 and held a 14-3 edge in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Emily Lloyd made two saves for the Chargers as she won her 47th career game.

The Chargers are off until Saturday when they will host either Baptist Bible or Valley Forge Christian in the NCCAA East Region Final. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Baptist Bible defeated Valley Forge Christian, 2-1 earlier this season.

With the win, LBC now has 33 points and is in first place in the NEAC standings. Penn St. Berks has 31 points and has one NEAC game remaining on Saturday against Penn St. Harrisburg. A Penn St. Berks win would give them 34 points and the NEAC Regular Season title, while a tie or loss by Penn St. Berks would give LBC the title. Penn St. Harrisburg could also end up with 33 points, but because of LBC's, 2-1 win over Penn St. Harrisburg on Oct. 6, the Chargers hold the tie-breaker.

The winner of the NEAC Regular Season will be the host of the NEAC playoffs which will be held on Nov. 3-4.
