Box Score After a disappointing loss on Tuesday to Penn St. Berks, the Lancaster Bible women's soccer team was looking to get back on track at NCCAA East Region rival Baptist Bible. When the Defenders' Melody Lyon scored just 14:39 into the game, it looked as though LBC's troubles may continue.
The Chargers did not panic and went back to controlling much of the play and getting the majority of the scoring chances. LBC's efforts paid off at the 31:48 mark when
Anne Hayward scored her first collegiate goal to tie the game at 1-1. Less than two minutes later,
Kathryn Ritter's second goal of the season gave the Chargers a 2-1 lead that would end up being the final score.
LBC (3-3) dominated the stat sheet as they outshot the Defenders, 26-10 and held a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.
BBC (1-2-1) had its best opportunity to tie the game late in the first half as Jocelyn Mantz found herself with the ball in front of LBC goalkeeper
Emily Lloyd. Lloyd made the save as her and Mantz collided.
"That save was huge for us at that time," LBC Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "We had the momentum and Emily helped us keep that heading into halftime."
The Chargers' defense tightened in the second half as they allowed just two shots after halftime, while the offense produced 13 shots.
"We still have some adjustments to make as a team, but today was a good win for us," Craul said.
The Chargers have the weekend off and will face NEAC rival Penn St. Abington on Tuesday at Father Judge High School in Philadelphia, Pa. LBC and Penn St. Abington last met in the NEAC final last season when the Nittany Lions won in penalty kicks.
Notes:
-The only other time the Chargers won in Clarks Summit was 2004 when LBC won, 2-0.
