Box Score After not scoring a goal in its first two games of the 2012 season, the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team scored just 1:52 into the game on Friday against Morrisville State. Then they scored again and again and again, leading the way to a 9-0 victory to open NEAC play.
Monica Horning and
Bethany Stein each had three goals, while
Whitney Heise added two goals. Freshman
Cheyenne Benson also scored her first collegiate goal for the Chargers.
"I think it's nice to get that first goal and first win," Chargers' Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "It takes any pressure away that the ladies may have been putting on themselves."
Stein, a freshman, finished the day with three goals and two assists. Her eight points are a new school record for one game.
"I think it is important for us to come out and get a goal or two early and kind of intimidate the other team a little bit," Stein said. "It feels great to score my first collegiate goal as well."
The Chargers (1-2) outshot the Mustangs, 27-2, en route to the victory.
"Because of the lead, we were able to rest some players today, so that should help us for Saturday," Craul said when asked if the back-to-back games would affect the Chargers.
The Chargers host Cazenovia on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Notes:
-The nine goals tie the school record for most in a single game. The last time LBC scored nine was Sept. 20, 2005 when the Chargers defeated Davis College, 9-0.
