Box Score The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team is facing something it hasn't seen in its previous two season in the North Eastern Athletic Conference - a NEAC Quarterfinal game. Penn St. Abington took a stranglehold on second place on Thursday as they came into Lancaster and dominated the Chargers for 90 minutes, winning, 3-0.Â
The win gives the Nittany Lions a three-point edge on the Chargers with just three conference games remaining for each team. Should LBC finish in third place, they will host a quarterfinal match on Saturday, Nov. 2 against the team that finishes in sixth place.
Thursday's game started poorly for the Chargers as Abington's Desirae Holmes scored just 3:19 into the game to give the Nittany Lions an early 1-0 lead. While the teams traded possession of the ball in the rain-filled first half, neither team had much in the way of scoring chances the rest of the way.Â
The rain fell much harder in the second half and the Nittany Lions (10-2, 7-1 NEAC) began to take control of the game and their hard work paid off at the 59:17 mark when Ashleyl Quenzer collected a ball in the box and scored into the right-hand side of the goal, giving Abington a two-goal lead.Â
The Nittany Lions tacked one more goal on the scoreboard with just over 15 minutes remaining when Kayla Nolan chipped the ball past a charging
Kaitlyn Scheuing. For the game, Scheuing made three saves for the Chargers who fell to 9-4 overall and 6-2 in NEAC play.Â
"We just didn't play very well, period," Chargers Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "I think our youth gets exposed when we don't play together as a team and today, we didn't play as a team. Give credit to Abington, they came to play like they had nothing to lose and they took advantage of our mistakes."
Abington held a 13-10 advantage in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Chargers will look to rebound on Saturday when they host SUNY Cobleskill at 3 p.m.
